Disclosures & Confidentiality For HIV Life Insurance & HIV Life Assurance (Part 1) By Chris Morgan
To make an appointment with Financial Adviser Chris Morgan about HIV Life Insurance or HIV Life Assurance you can email him at Enquiries@unusualrisks.co.uk
On the 31st of July this year I will be celebrating my 30 year anniversary of qualifying as a Financial Adviser.
During this time I’ve met literally hundred of clients living with HIV – many of which have had poor experiences elsewhere – this may have been though their Bank, Building Society, Estate Agent, Mortgage Broker, Insurance Company or an Online Money Website.
Advising HIV Positive clients is something that I do literally “Week in and Week out”, “Day In and Day Out” – making sure they are able to obtain the Life Insurance and Mortgage Life Insurance they need to protect their families and properties.
It’s important that you take specialist professional advice because many of the “Insurance Distribution” routes mentioned are not totally friendly to people living with HIV and may lead you to a disappointing outcome.
Chris Morgan and Unusual Risks are specialists at advising HIV Positive applicants for Life Insurance – in this new extended series of “Disclosures & Confidentiality” articles I will be sharing “real life case examples” with you that have crossed my desk recently.
The subjects we will cover in the coming weeks are very real and will help you to protect your Confidentiality and determine the necessary disclosures that will need to be made to insurers for you to obtain Life Insurance.
This is my specialist area of financial services and I look forward to sharing more with you over the coming weeks
Life Insurance Co-Risk v Single Risk
Life Insurance is one of the main product areas I assist people living with HIV.
I’m able to assist those with HIV and also those with other multiple (co-risk) medical conditions – this is where they have more than one significant medical condition – this group of people can find it especially difficult to obtain life insurance.
Common conditions that I can insure include HIV along with Diabetes Type 1, Diabetes Type 2, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and tuberculosis along with a host of other medical conditions.
HIV Life Insurance – Case Example
Name: Kiah, Occupation: Registered Nurse; Age 50
I recently advised a new client Kiah, who had been “sold” a Life Insurance policy through a financial adviser that she had met through her church – when the policy premium was first quoted to Kiah she agreed to a monthly premium of £78 per month.
However, when the policy was issued following underwriting she was left confused and upset because they increased the premium to £186 – without any reasonable explanation.
Somewhere along the line with Kiah’s application the medical disclosures were not made correctly on her application.
In my discussions with Kiah she asked me to find something more affordable as she simply could not afford what the insurer was charging her. She did not feel she could return to the previous financial adviser due to confidently reasons within her church.
HIV Life Insurance – Declined Elsewhere
I meet clients all the time that have poor experiences elsewhere either with their Bank, Building Society, Estate Agent, Mainstream Financial Adviser, Mortgage Broker or Online Comparison Websites.
In our experience all of these just don’t know enough about HIV – this can often can result in poor underwriting outcomes.
Up to 50% of applications for HIV Positive people are still declined by the Insurance Industry. I’m not sure why anyone would apply for Life Insurance without taking specialist financial advice?
HIV Life Insurance – Product Features
We are able to arrange Life Insurance for Mortgages, Family Protection and Business Loans and can access Life Insurance products that are fully inclusive for pre-existing conditions.
We are now also offering longer term life insurance for HIV Positive clients up to 30 year term and for some longer – many people only have 10, 15 or 20 years remaining on their policies and we are currently extending policies for many people with shorter term cover.
