25 Years in 2025 – HIV Income Protection – HIV Critical Illness Cover – August 2025

““Celebrating 25 years in 2025 – Part 6Protecting Your Income & Your Mortgage – By Chris Morgan

In 2025 I’m celebrating advising people living with HIV on financial issues for 25 years. Initially this was through my first resident column in men’s health magazine AXM in year 2000, which featured many advice issues for people living with HIV.

Although I started advising people living with HIV in 2000 the first Income Protection and Critical Illness products have only became available in 2025. We are now actively writing Income Protection and Critical Illness Cover for people living with HIV.

It is only a recent development that “HIV Inclusive” products have become available to protect the Income and Mortgages of people living with HIV.

Latest News – Income Protection & Critical Illness Cover

95% of Banks, Building Societies, Estate Agents and Mortgage Providers decline people living with HIV for Income Protection and Critical Illness – However, we are able to arrange these products for some groups of HIV Positive people who need cover for their Income or Mortgage.

The vast majority of these cases are currently being declined at point of sale, as the majority of product providers do not offer this type of cover. However, we have several insurers that offer cover – we research the whole of market and don’t just offer one product provider.

We know which insurers are “HIV Friendly” and which ones are most definitely not “HIV Friendly”

Rafiki, Consultant Surgeon Age 43 ….

We met Rafiki who was facing a Mortgage Completion, after being declined for Income Protection and Critical Illness Cover – this was through a financial adviser through his Estate Agent. This caused him a great deal of concern as it would have meant his mortgage payments would not be protected.

We are aware that the vast majority of people living with HIV are likely to be turned down by Estate Agents, Banks and Building Societies and Insurers just like Rafiki. This is because most do not offer these type of products to people living with HIV.

For the first time in 15 years we are now able to offer Income Protection and Critical Illness Cover for HIV positive applicants. We were able to arrange Income Protection for Rafiki that protected his income and mortgage payments through to age 65.

This was fully inclusive cover – without any exclusions for HIV.

Declined For Cover Elsewhere?

Banks, Building Societies, Estate Agents, Insurers and Mainstream financial advisers are very quick to decline people living with HIV for Life Insurance, Income Protection and Critical Illness Cover. The most common reason for HIV people being declined for cover relates to multiple medical conditions (Co-Risk).

There are very few insurers that will insure HIV Positive people where they have been declined elsewhere and where multiple medical conditions (Co-Risk), other than HIV exist. We are absolute experts at placing insurance products for HIV people who have been declined for cover elsewhere.
