Press Release: HIV Life Insurance – Medical Underwriting Limits – Spring 2021 …

During the last 12 months the availability of Life Insurance for people living with HIV, has been restricted by the majority mainstream insurers, which has meant there has been an increase in the number of HIV positive people being declined for Life Insurance. The reason for this has been the reduction in the overall underwriting limits for those taking Life Insurance with existing medical conditions.

Our latest research explains more about the changes since last March and the particular groups that may be affected. It also explains more about how we are able to assist those seeking Life Insurance for their Families, Mortgages and Business Loans. We have a number of mainstream insurers still willing to offer cover. We believe that “Life Insurance” should be “Available For All”!

FULL PRESS RELEASE – SPRING 2020

Unusual Risks, Financial Advisers to the HIV Community, have today published the results of their new research into the reduction of the availability of Life Insurance for people living with HIV. They have established that the maximum medical underwriting limits for people with medical conditions and are less than half of what they were prior to COVID.

This was established by closely monitoring the maximum underwriting limits adopted by UK Life Insurance Companies, since the start of the COVID pandemic a year ago. Insurers have significantly reduced their maximum limits for those with medical conditions, which in turn has significantly restricted the availability of Life Insurance for people living with HIV.

Chris Morgan, Lead Financial Adviser of Unusual Risks, Said, …

‘The reduction in the overall industry limits for medical conditions, has left many people with HIV being declined for Life Insurance, who may otherwise have been accepted for cover. Very few mainstream insurers, high street banks and building societies are currently offering Life Insurance to people with HIV’.

‘Those people with additional medical conditions over and above HIV, such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, high BMI, stress, anxiety and depression may be finding it difficult to obtain cover, this is due to the general reduction in the maximum tolerance for medical conditions amongst Life Insurance providers.’

Unusual Risks have been working hard to protect the interests of the HIV Community during the pandemic and are now able to announce that we are able to guarantee access to Life Insurance for all people living with HIV, between the ages of 18 and 64, in the UK. Whether this be via mainstream insurer providers or insurers that offer cover without any medical evidence.

Chris Morgan has campaigned on behalf of the HIV Community for two decades, firstly for the introduction of HIV Life Assurance, followed by the improvement of terms and premiums. He is currently campaigning for access to “Life Insurance For All”, as he believes that everyone should be able to access some form of Life Insurance to protect their families.
