This Sunday (28th of July) is World Hepatitis Day and to acknowledge this celebration day, we are publishing a recent Hepatitis C Insurance case that we have completed on behalf of a client (Michael) …
Michael Said, …
‘I’m currently buying a new property and taking a mortgage for £135,000 through the financial adviser at my bank. Everything was going fine until they asked me about Life Assurance and some awkward questions about my health and past drug use’.
‘They came back with a huge premium for the Life Assurance, siting my past heroin use as the reason for increasing the premium. They have made it clear that they require some form of Life Assurance in order to agree the mortgage, so I’ve decided to look elsewhere for a quotation’.
We arranged a Life Assurance policy with a sum assured of £135,000 for a premium of £17.83 per month to go alongside Michael’s mortgage. The last offer of insurance he had received was for a premium of over £50.00 per month from the previous financial adviser.
Unusual Risks always survey the whole of the market place for every client that approaches us. In Michaels case we established that over 60% of insurers would decline an application from someone who is Hepatitis C, with past heroin use logged on their medical records.
