Why people with HIV should review their Life Insurance? By Chris Morgan
Over the last fourteen years there have been many changes to the Life Insurance products that are available to people with HIV. These changes have mainly been in the form of the length of policies available and the lowering of premiums charged.
Policies are now available for longer terms and this is a direct result of our campaigning over the last 14 years. We consult with the insurers on a daily basis over their terms, pricing and fairness of their products for our clients and secure the very best deals.
Extended Term
When products were first launched in 2009 the policies available were for a maximum term of only 10 years and even now I’m meeting people who’s original 10 year policies are coming to an end and they wish to take out new cover. They are now able to for between 20 and 30 year terms dependent on their circumstances.
Lower Premiums
Our aim is to secure the lowest premiums possible for our clients, as they have definitely been reducing over the last 14 years. Premiums are calculated based upon a persons viral load, CD4 count, their dates of diagnosis and if they have any other pre-existing medical conditions.
Underwriting Criteria
Underwriting criteria has changed considerably over the last few years for people with HIV, resulting in us now being able to cover many more people than before. There is now greater opportunity for people to obtain cover even if they have been declined for cover in the past.
Medical Conditions
Some insurers are now able to cover people with multiple medical conditions, such as HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Diabetes Type 1, Diabetes Type 2, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Stress, Anxiety, Depression along with many other different conditions.
We recommend that people living with HIV review their Life Insurance arrangements to make sure they have the best deal for their circumstances.
