HIV & Insurance Column – Edition 11 – April 2020

Why are Life Insurance companies increasingly declining more people living with HIV? – Part One”  – Commentary By Chris Morgan

Over the last year the number of people with HIV being declined for Life Insurance has been increasing rapidly due to the effects of the pandemic. Many of these applications have been turned away by Banks, Building Societies and Insurers without any logical reasoning or explanation.

Those with even minor medical conditions, alongside HIV are bring considered a higher risk by insurers. Being declined for Life Insurance can be distressing, so we have been working extremely hard to make sure the interests of the HIV Community are protected during these difficult times.

Latest Products

The latest generation of HIV Life Insurance products that we have been arranging for people, have the lowest premiums and insure the most diverse group of applicants ever. We are able to arrange Life Insurance independently from your Mortgage Lender, Bank or Building Society.

Throughout the pandemic we have also been working on solutions for the HIV Community that will guarantee a level of “Life Insurance For All”. Be sure to keep reading my column throughout 2021, to find out more details of our plan for making certain all members of the HIV Community are able to access some form of Life Insurance.

Client Case Example, Patricia, Aged 43, School Teacher

Patricia approached us for Life Insurance after being declined for cover by Legal & General, who were offered to her by her high street bank. They did not give her any specific reasons for declining her application, other than she marked on the application that she was living with HIV.

We were able to assure Patricia that there was not any issue with her medical file and within a few minutes, were able to establish she was in fact insurable by other insurers. Sometimes we find that people are referred by banks to insurance companies that do not even offer HIV Life Insurance.

Declined For Cover? We Can Help

Throughout the pandemic, we have been more determined than ever to make certain that everyone is able to access some form of Life Insurance, as a basic human right, to protect their mortgages, debts and families. Keep checking back to my new HIV and Insurance column for further details of our  “Life Insurance For All!” campaign.
